PV Sindhu confirmed her place in the women’s single Badminton final at Rio Olympics 2016 on Thursday night after she defeated Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara. The Indian shuttler will now at least win the silver medal in the prestigious tournament.

As Sindhu became India’s first ever shuttler to reach the final of this sport in Olympics, congratulations started pouring in. But none could have been more heart-felt or vociferous than those from Amitabh Bachchan. The actor is an avid sports fan and has been encouraging the Indian contingent through his tweets and blogs.

Immediately after Sindhu’s win, he tweeted, “YEEEAAAAHHHHHH !! COME ON INDIA… PV Sindhu in FINALS of Womens Badminbton at #Rio2016 .. another women from India ! HISTORIC: #PVSindhu in Finals of women’s badminton ..never before has any Indian ever reached the finals of this sport at #Rio2016 ..HISTORY.”

He then took on Shobhaa De, whose ungracious tweet on lack of medals from the Indian contingent at Olympics had raised ire last week. Big B wrote, “ #PVSindhu .. aap ‘khaali haath’ nahein, medal leke wapas aa rahein hain .. aur hum aapke saath ‘selfie’ nikalne chahate hain !! Never ever underestimate power of female gender ! #PVSindhu you have destroyed so many ‘naysayers’ .. you are the PRIDE of INDIA! #PVSindhu …aapne ‘bolne walon’ ki bolti bund kar di .. karm bolta hai aur wo kabhi kabhi ‘kalam’ ko bhi hara deta hai ! BADHAI !!

Shah Rukh and Aamir Khan also congratulated Sindhu on her win. “Sakshi….Sindhu…. Dono ko Salaam!” tweeted Shah Rukh Khan. Aamir Khan also took to Twitter to write, “Way to go Sindhu! Congratulations! You have made India proud!!! All the very best for the finals. Love.a.”
Sindhu will now play Carolina Marin of Spain for gold on Friday. Sindhu made her way into the semis by defeating world number two Wang Yihan of China in the quarter-finals.
