Nintendo's new gaming console would make you want to Switch

Nintendo’s NX is officially called the Switch and it’s essentially a hybrid gaming device that aims to blur the gap between dedicated consoles that you would find traditionally inside living rooms and a handheld portable carry-away.  Nintendo, over the years, has come out with both kinds of gaming equipment. The Switch combines the two into one console and in a word, it looks fantastic. That is, if you’ve seen the preview video shared by the company that shows off the first glimpse into Nintendo’s brand new console.

Nintendo also has a launch date, and has given out names of some of the developers who will be making games for the platform. The launch is scheduled for March 2017, and developers roped in include the likes of Activision, Bandai Namco, Bethesda, Capcom and Electronic Arts.

“Nintendo Switch allows gamers the freedom to play however they like. It gives game developers new abilities to bring their creative visions to life by opening up the concept of gaming without boundaries,” Reggie Fils-Aime, president and COO, Nintendo of America was quoted as saying in the company’s official blog .

Nintendo’s Switch is essentially a hand-held portable gaming device that turns into a full-fledged console when resting inside a specialised Dock. Players can simply lift the Switch out, and the device will transition into a portable mode replete with a high-definition screen and separate controllers. “It brings the full home gaming system experience with you to the park, on an airplane, in a car, or to a friend’s apartment,” claims Nintendo.

So, basically, the company is promising the same level of game play mechanics and control in either mode, which makes the Switch stand out from hardcore gaming consoles like Sony’s PS4 and the Xbox One.

The Switch comes with detachable Joy-Con controllers that can be used either individually or together (depending on how many people will be simultaneously playing) that “can mirror a more traditional controller” according to Nintendo. Additionally, the Switch will also be compatible with a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.

The Switch features both single and multiplayer capabilities and will also be harbinger of an all new Super Mario game, that the company also teased in the preview video.
