Hyundai Tucson, the Rs 20 lakh SUV from the Korean automaker has been positioned between the Creta and the Santa Fe in India. However, though the Tucson is available with petrol and diesel engine options mated to both manual and automatic gearboxes, it is only being offered as a front wheel drive SUV in India. Internationally though, the new Tucson comes with four-wheel drive hardware as well. Hyundai has confirmed that this 4WD version of the Tucson will be launched in India in April 2017.
Hyundai will only launch the 4WD Tucson with a diesel engine. And chances are, it might come mated exclusively to the six-speed automatic. Additionally, the Tucson 4WD will come in the top spec GLS trim but with added features to further justify the incremental pricing of the new version. The new Hyundai Tucson 4WD will be powered by the same 2-litre, 185bhp diesel as on the Tucson.
Hyundai has only recently launched the Tucson in India and it retails between Rs 18.99 lakh and Rs 24.99 lakh depending on the variant. Though the Tucson doesn’t compete with any other SUV head-on in India, its closest competitor is the Honda CR-V. However, unlike the Tucson which comes with petrol and diesel engines, the CR-V is available only as a petrol. The petrol Tucson is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine generating 153bhp and 192Nm of torque and is offered with both a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic transmission.
