An Albuquerque business owner shot and killed a person casing vehicles in his company parking lot, according to Albuquerque Police. Now, APD is investigating what led up to the deadly encounter.

It happened Friday night near Jefferson and I-25 at Chavez Concrete Contractors.

Police say they were called to Chavez Concrete Contractors around 9 p.m. on Friday near Jefferson and I-25. The owner reported someone was in his lot casing vehicles.

After that call, police said the business owner and the suspect had a confrontation and gunfire was exchanged.

Police said the business owner was shot and injured but he also shot at the man, killing him.

Officers found the man dead inside a construction vehicle in the lot.

“The business owner was involved in the gunfight with this individual that’s deceased so we’re talking to him about what happened,” Ofc. Simon Drobik said. “At this time it’ll be forwarded over to the DA’s office.”

Police have not identified the man who was killed.

Officers said they collected a lot of evidence at the scene and will be talking to any witnesses and reviewing the surveillance video.

KRQE News 13 reached out to Chavez Concrete Contractors but did not hear back.

It is the second case of a home or business owner taking action against an intruder in just over a month. In early October, a Foothills homeowner shot and killed a suspected burglar.
